Discussion Note.
A natural objection is that protein folding is a physical dynamical process, so representing a fold through global admissibility may appear to ignore the actual kinetic pathway by which the protein reaches its native state. CJM does not deny such dynamics. The narrower question is whether the observed pathway must be regarded as a fundamental sequential search through conformational space, or whether the native fold may also be characterized as a globally admissible configuration under the full structural constraints. A more explicit comparison between kinetic folding trajectories and atemporal conformation-admissibility is left for future work.
